Gateway Fees

Overview

Payment gateways charge fees on every transaction. Panelque can automatically calculate these fees and include them in your profit calculations, giving you a more accurate picture of your true margins.

Shopify Payments reports fees directly via the API and these are tracked automatically. For third-party gateways, you can configure fee structures so Panelque can calculate them.

How It Works

For each order, Panelque looks at every successful transaction and calculates fees:

  1. Shopify-reported fees - If Shopify provides fee data for a transaction, those exact amounts are used
  2. Custom gateway fees - If no fees are reported and you’ve configured a fee structure for that gateway, Panelque calculates the fee using your configuration

The total transaction fee is included in the order’s cost breakdown on the Orders page, reducing the reported profit accordingly.

Configuring Gateway Fees

Go to Settings > Gateway Fees to manage your configurations.

Adding a Fee Configuration

Click Add gateway fee and fill in:

  • Gateway - Select from gateways that have processed transactions in your store. Only unconfigured gateways appear in the dropdown
  • Preset - If available, select a preset with known fee rates for that gateway. Presets auto-fill the percentage and flat fee fields
  • Percentage fee (%) - The percentage charged per transaction (e.g. 1.4)
  • Flat fee - A fixed amount charged per transaction in your shop’s currency (e.g. 0.25)

The fee for each transaction is calculated as:

Fee = (Transaction amount x Percentage / 100) + Flat fee

Editing

Edit the percentage or flat fee of any configuration from the action menu. The gateway name cannot be changed — delete and recreate the configuration to switch gateways.

Deleting

Delete a configuration when you no longer need it. Future profit calculations for that gateway will show zero fees unless Shopify provides them directly.

Presets

Panelque includes presets for common payment gateways with their standard fee rates. When you select a gateway that has presets, the form auto-fills with the first matching preset. You can choose a different preset or select “Custom” to enter your own rates.

Tips

  • Configure gateway fees early so all your profit calculations are accurate from the start
  • Check your gateway provider’s pricing page for the exact percentage and flat fee — rates vary by country and plan
  • If your gateway has different rates for domestic vs international cards, use an average or the rate that applies to most of your transactions
